The drugmaker Pfizer said on Tuesday it will pay $1 billion in to settle lawsuits over its $1 billion patent for erectile dysfunction drugs called Viagra.
The Pfizer lawsuit was brought by the family of alleged victims who say their health problems led to their death from a heart attack on March 27, 1998, when they suffered from heart attacks. The family says their lawsuit was filed by a group of former patients who suffered strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems before their deaths.
Pfizer Inc., the maker of the blockbuster erectile dysfunction drug, also faces a $25 million settlement for the deaths of two other alleged victims, who are in the hospital after suffering brain damage. The company agreed to pay the settlement for Viagra, the maker of the world's first erectile dysfunction drug.
On Monday, Pfizer announced that it had reached a $25 million settlement with the victims, and said it will pay $1 billion to resolve all lawsuits against the company.
Pfizer said it has already received several thousand calls from patients complaining of heart attacks or strokes and the deaths of two patients who died after taking Viagra.
The company is also taking steps to limit its use of Viagra and other impotence drugs to prevent people from becoming impotent.
“We believe that the government and the American people have the power to determine the right to treat erectile dysfunction without medical oversight, and we are committed to providing the appropriate and appropriate guidance and monitoring to the pharmaceutical industry,” Pfizer said in a statement.

In November, Pfizer agreed to pay $750 million to settle cases over Viagra, and the company said it had agreed to pay $1 billion to resolve other cases related to the deaths of two people who died after taking Viagra. The agreement, made in April, will pay $750 million to resolve the cases.

The company said it is committed to resolving all litigation related to Viagra.
Pfizer’s shares rose $1.45 on Monday after it reported an expected 3.2% rise, to $14.25. A stock market crash, the company said, resulted.
“We are disappointed by the news of the Viagra lawsuit, but we look forward to working with the regulatory authority to address the underlying issues and provide further guidance,” said Jim Hightorpe, Pfizer’s chief operating officer.

The British pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has been accused of stockpiling Viagra tablets in the U. K. to promote the erectile dysfunction drug.
The US drug giant, which is made by Eli Lilly, is said to be stockpiling Viagra tablets as it prepares to launch its first generic version of the drug, which is sold in 50 countries.
